Sensing Systems
PPS sensing systems deliver precise, repeatable tactile data without the need for custom integration. Each system is engineered around a specific measurement challenge, combining PPS high-resolution capacitive sensing technology with application-matched design, Chameleon software, and direct technical support from the engineers who built them.
For researchers and engineers who need greater configurability or want to integrate tactile sensing into their own hardware, our R&D sensor range offers the flexibility to build from the ground up.
HAND & GRIP PRESSURE MAPPING
Understanding how force is distributed across the hand during gripping, handling, or tool use is critical for ergonomic product design, clinical assessment, and human factors research. PPS hand and grip sensing systems capture high-resolution pressure distribution across fingers, palm, and wrist in real time, giving engineers and researchers the data to optimise grip design, assess injury risk, and validate comfort and fit with precision.
Head Pressure Mapping Systems
Understanding how pressure distributes across the head and face is essential for the design and validation of helmets, headsets, headwear, and wearable devices. PPS head pressure mapping systems capture high-resolution contact data across the full head surface, giving product designers and researchers the objective measurement needed to optimise fit, reduce pressure hotspots, and validate comfort across different head geometries.
TactileMat - Surface Pressure Mapping
Measuring how pressure distributes across a surface under load is critical for gait analysis, product contact testing, and any application where understanding the spatial distribution of force on flat surface matters. The TactileMat delivers high-resolution pressure mapping across a large active area in a rigid, robust platform, capturing dynamic contact data without the dead zones created by stitching multiple smaller sensors together.
Semiconductor, Spray and spray pattern sensing
Our tactile sensing technology has allowed semiconductor manufacturers to improve tolerances in manufacturing and produce wafers with more precision and accuracy. This application of low-pressure sensors has fuelled products that optimize semiconductor polishing disk pressures while significantly reducing tilt errors. The ultra-low-pressure sensitivity of the Spray Sensor allows for precision measurement, testing, and refinement of cleaning sprays, aerosol nozzles, and any other application involving low pressure or pattern distribution.
Pulse Development Kit - Cardiovascular Sensing
Capturing high-fidelity pulse waveform data without cuffs, chest straps, or precise sensor positioning opens up new possibilities for wearable health monitoring, smart apparel, and ambulatory medical devices. The Pulse Development Kit provides a non-invasive platform for acquiring pulse pressure waveforms at acquisition rates above 100 Hz, with advanced algorithms that extract the strongest signal across the sensing array regardless of placement. Open API capabilities allow development teams to build and validate custom algorithms on real cardiovascular data.
Robotact — Enabling Sense of Touch
PPS tactile sensors provide robots with reliable, high-resolution touch feedback. Integrated into robotic grippers, humanoid hands, or manipulators, PPS RoboTact sensors enable accurate detection of contact forces and pressure distribution in real time.
This tactile feedback supports safer interaction, improved dexterity, and more intelligent manipulation strategies.
AEROSTRIP - pressure sensor strip for Aerodynamics
PPS aerodynamic sensing solutions, such as conformable pressure strips, enable surface pressure measurement without the complexity of traditional wind tunnel instrumentation. Lightweight and flexible, these AeroStrip sensors can be applied directly to curved or moving surfaces.
They provide high-resolution pressure distribution data for airflow analysis, CFD validation, and aerodynamic optimisation in real-world conditions.
Custom Development
Many applications require more than an off-the-shelf solution. PPS specialises in custom tactile sensor development, working closely with customers from early concept through integration and validation.
Sensors can be tailored in geometry, pressure range, resolution, and electronics to meet specific mechanical and system-level requirements.
